The second oldest storey building in Nigeria, St James Anglican Church, Ota, now in present-day Ogun State. Though construction started in 1842, the second storey came later in 1846, making it 177 years old.

It was in this building that Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther translated four books of the New Testament into Yoruba in 1852 and then the entire Bible into Yoruba, which he completed in 1884.

Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther was a significant influence on the English missionary Thomas John Dennis, who translated The Bible into Igbo for the first time in 1913 using material from the book, 'Vocabulary of the Ibo Language', published in 1882 by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther.
